Max's painting Lion, 1985 / 90" quatrefoil / metallic pigments and acrylic polymer on canvas is included in The Third Mind: American Artists Contemplate Asia, 1860-1989 curated by Senior Asian Curator at the Guggenheim, Alexandra Munroe. The exhibition opend at the Guggenheim Museum, New York, in January 2009 as a centerpiece of the museum's 50th Anniversary of the Frank Lloyd Wright building. The Third Mind: American Artists Contemplate Asia, 1860-1989 is a masterpiece show featuring works by canonical figures of the 20th century and leading younger artists working today.

A fully illustrated, 475 page catalogue will accompany the exhibition. Edited with an introduction by exhibition curator Alexandra Munroe, it is the first comprehensive study of the influence of Asian aesthetics and philosophy on modern and contemporary art.
